The Civil Aviation Training College was established by Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Government of India in 1948 which is now a part of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a corporate body established by Act of Parliament in 1994 under the aegis of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. It is a pioneer institute vested with the responsibility of imparting training in the Air Navigation Services field. It offers competency based training to the ATC and CNS personnel as per the Global standards and practices delegated by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) trainings- both being highly safety critical- are regulated by the state regulatory authority, DGCA and international regulator, ICAO.
The ATM training is subject to meeting the requirements laid down for this purpose in ICAO Annex-I and produces ATCOs who are fully equipped with the proficiency required for safer and efficient flow of Air Traffic and the CNS training- being technical in nature- serves to produce highly specialized and skilled ATSEPs (Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel) to cater to the very stringent requirements of the Air safety critical Equipment forming ANS infrastructure. CATC is a full member of ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS program which is a globally standardized format of training in the field of Air Navigation Services. CATC is ISO 9001:2008 certified.
